Why we like Emma Electronic
Emma Electronic out of Aarhus, Denmark have been building some of the most fun and awesome-sounding pedals since around the turn of the millennium. From the now-classic DiscumBOBulator envelope filter to the Navigator hybrid delay and a family of amp-like drives and high-gain distortions, the range covers a lot of practical ground but with a definite sense of humour. The circuits are original, handmade and designed to sound great on real-world guitar and bass rigs rather than just on paper.
Navigator – Hybrid Dual-Head Delay
Navigator combines the best of analogue and digital technology in a compact, dual-delay design. Your dry signal path stays 100% analogue for zero latency and natural feel, while a custom-coded DSP handles delay times up to 1 second with tap tempo and beat-split options. Two independent delay heads, modulation (speed/depth), trails, wet/dry outputs and a separate level for the beat-split voice let you cover everything from classic single repeats to dotted-eighth multitap patterns and chorusy tape-style echoes.
Okto Nojs – Fuzz & Octave (Guitar & Bass)
Okto Nojs is a combined analogue octaver and fuzz, designed to work equally well on guitar and bass. The octave section tracks accurately down to low E, while the fuzz side uses a harmonic distortion generator to create unique, synth-like octave-fuzz textures. It reacts strongly to playing dynamics, so you can move from tight, supportive low-end to splattery, sputtering octa-fuzz chaos just by how hard you hit the strings.
ReezaFRATzitz & Stinkbug – Amp-Like Overdrive & Distortion
ReezaFRATzitz was designed to give you the tone and touch-responsiveness of a cranked tube amp under your feet. A unique Bias control lets you alter the harmonic content and attack response from Class A to Class B style behaviour and anywhere in between, while interactive Bass and Treble controls and a very wide gain range take you from light breakup to full rock distortion.
Stinkbug is Emma’s take on the ultimate “classic” overdrive. It delivers warm, amp-like drive tones with a carefully tuned mid presence that helps you cut through the mix without sounding nasal or fizzy. Low and High EQ controls give you loads of tonal flexibility, and the gain range runs from low-gain edge-of-breakup to roaring blues-rock crunch, all while preserving the natural character of your guitar.
PisdiYAUWot – Tight High-Gain Distortion
PisdiYAUWot is a powerful, versatile high-gain distortion voiced for ultra-tight, modern rock and metal tones. The gain stage is raw and brutal but extremely clear, with an ultra-wide gain range and a very fast attack so you get “no mud, all metal”. It’s designed to give you a precise, defined chug that won’t disappear in a band mix, and uses Emma’s buffered “untrue-bypass” switching for a super-transparent bypass.
OnoMATOpoeia – From Clean Boost to Dirty Drive
OnoMATOpoeia is basically a sonic superhero – a clean boost by day and dirty overdrive by night. It can act as a pure level boost to lift solos or hit the front of your amp harder, or you can dial in the Saturation control for more gain and grit. A clever “seesaw” tone control lets you go from well-balanced vintage voicings to crisp, sparkly modern tones, all with an intuitive layout and top-mounted jacks.
Transmorgrifier – Analogue Compressor
Transmorgrifier is an analogue compressor that gives you everything you like about classic stompbox comps but with more control and transparency. It can run as a subtle, studio-like leveller that keeps your core tone intact, or as an aggressive, squashed chicken-picking compressor with strong attack. A versatile Ratio control and wide frequency response make it suitable for guitar, bass and other instruments, and like other Emma pedals it features top-mounted I/O and true-bypass switching.
DiscumBOBulator V2 – Auto-Wah & Envelope Filter
DiscumBOBulator V2 is the updated version of a pedal that’s often called one of the best envelope filters / auto-wahs around. The proprietary all-analogue circuit is designed to handle everything from super-fast single-note lines to dense chords without getting mushy. V2 increases dynamic range, triples the headroom so it can happily take hot active basses and line-level signals, and adds an independent 10 dB boost. From tight, funky quack and cocked-wah tones through to synth-like filter sweeps, it’s a seriously versatile filter for guitar, bass, keys and more.
Between them, these Emma Electronic pedals cover a full working board: delay, compression, envelope filter, classic drive, high gain, octave fuzz and flexible boost. If you’re not sure whether Navigator, Okto Nojs, ReezaFRATzitz, Stinkbug or PisdiYAUWot is the best fit for your rig, drop us a message and we’ll happily talk you through the options.
