Fulltone

Fulltone USA is one of the original boutique pedal companies, founded by guitarist and designer Michael Fuller back in the early 1990s. Built in the USA with high-quality components, Fulltone pedals like the OCD and Full-Drive helped define the “amp-like” overdrive trend and are still found on countless boards today.

At Guitar FX Direct we stock a focused selection of Fulltone favourites including the OCD V2 overdrive, the new OCD Germanium (Ge) ‘69 Mk II germanium fuzz, Octafuzz OF2 octave fuzz, Mas Malo distortion/fuzz, Full-Drive 2 V2 and Full-Drive 3 dual overdrives, the 2B JFET booster/buffer and the Supa-Trem Jr amp-style tremolo. We also have the Univibe inspired MDV MkII Deja-Vibe – all available with free UK delivery and our 30-day no-quibble returns policy.

Why we like Fulltone

Fulltone were early pioneers of what we now think of as “boutique” pedals – US-built, high-quality effects designed by a guitarist for guitarists. From the OCD and Full-Drive overdrives to germanium fuzzes, octave fuzz, tremolo and smart utility boosts, the range covers a lot of classic rock ground with a very strong focus on touch, feel and dynamics.

OCD V2 – Open, Amp-Like Overdrive

Fulltone OCD V2 is an extremely open-sounding overdrive/distortion designed to feel like a cranked amp rather than a typical pedal. It uses a JFET opamp front end with MOSFET hard clipping later in the circuit, giving big dynamic range, complex overtones and less compression than many diode-clipped drives. With plenty of output level and 9–18V operation, it can work as everything from a low-gain “always on” tone shaper to a full-blown amp-style distortion or powerful boost into an already cooking amp.

‘69 Mk II & Octafuzz OF2 – Vintage Fuzz & Octave

Fulltone ‘69 Mk II is Fulltone’s refined take on a vintage Fuzz Face-style circuit using carefully selected germanium transistors. Voiced to be fat and harmonically rich but still able to clean up beautifully from your guitar’s volume control, it nails the early Hendrix / late ‘60s fuzz thing while remaining controllable and musical in a modern rig.

Fulltone Octafuzz OF2 is an exact-circuit recreation of the legendary Tycobrahe Octavia – delivering wild octave-up fuzz tones in the vein of Hendrix’s “Band of Gypsys” era and countless SRV live moments. It can do both screaming octave leads and thick fuzz textures, with the ability to run as straight fuzz or octave fuzz depending on how you set it. If you want that classic, slightly unruly octave-up sound, this is the one.

Mas Malo – Distortion, Fuzz & Crunch

Mas Malo (“more bad”) is a compact but fierce distortion/fuzz built around three matched NOS BC184C transistors. It’s voiced to cover everything from classic Jimmy Page-style crunch through singing Gilmour-like lead sustain to compressed, howling fuzz with almost endless feedback – even at relatively low volumes. There’s enough midrange presence to sit well in a band mix, and it reacts well to guitar volume and picking dynamics.

Full-Drive 2 V2 & Full-Drive 3 – Flexible Dual Overdrives

Full-Drive 2 V2 is the evolution of one of the original boutique “Tube Screamer killers”. It’s a Tube Screamer-inspired overdrive with more clarity, more headroom and much more flexibility. You get two footswitchable drive channels (Drive 1 and Drive 2) each with their own volume and gain, plus multiple clipping and voicing options (Comp-Cut, Flat Mids, Vintage, Wide, Standard, Half-Clipped) so you can move from classic mid-hump OD to flatter, more open sounds and beyond.

Full-Drive 3 (FD3) takes the Full-Drive idea further by using both a JFET input and JFET opamp for extremely tube-like response, and adds an independent clean boost that can be placed before or after the overdrive. A three-way clipping switch lets you choose between classic ‘90s FD2 voicing, a wider asymmetrical option or Comp-Cut with no diodes at all. It’s effectively a high-quality always-on boost, mid-gain drive and bigger lead tone all in one compact enclosure.

2B JFET Booster & Supa-Trem Jr – Utility & Feel Pedals

Fulltone 2B is a tiny JFET buffer/booster derived from the boost circuit in the Full-Drive 3. It’s designed as a transparent, musical level lift that also improves feel and restores lost high end and dynamics in longer pedal chains. A germanium-diode-based “dynamics limiter” section helps control harsh transients so boosted tones stay sweet and controlled rather than spiky.

Supa-Trem Jr is a compact, amp-style opto tremolo with a lot of extra tricks. It offers true bypass, tap tempo with external tap input, a half/double-speed hold feature, up to around 15 dB of boost, and three waveforms – square, sine and a more natural, heartbeat-like “warble”. It’ll do classic slow, swampy trem right through to fast, choppy rhythmic pulses, all in a relatively small, pedalboard-friendly enclosure.

Together, these Fulltone pedals cover a huge amount of bread-and-butter guitar territory: dynamic amp-like drive (OCD, Full-Drive), vintage and octave fuzz (‘69 Mk II, Octafuzz, Mas Malo), musical boost (2B) and proper amp-style tremolo (Supa-Trem Jr). If you’re unsure whether an OCD, Full-Drive, ‘69, Octafuzz or Mas Malo is the best fit for your rig, drop us a message and we’ll happily talk you through the options.
