NEW IN FROM MOJO HAND FX

Within the pantheon of solid state and boutique effects, a few brand’s new releases always cause a bit of a stir; mostly because these brands are the epitome of quality, playability and versatility. This year so far, one of the biggest names to be rocking the guitar expos, and indeed our shelves here at Guitar FX Direct is Mojo Hand FX.
With four new releases fresh from the soldering table, Mojo Hand has launched 2014 with two new pre-amps, a spring reverb and a mod/delay.
For those already in the know, Mojo Hand’s best export is pre-amp/OD the Rook. For a simple box with few controls the Rook certainly pulls no punches. Boasting dynamic EQ, 3 voice selection and full range tone control, the Rook blends clarity with weight losing nothing at either end of the sonic spectrum.
The Rook’s popularity is in part due to endorsement from, among others, Aerosmith, Kid Rock and The Departed. The Rook too, sets the standard on which Mojo Hand has based their two new pre-amps, the DMBL and the Speakeasy.
There is little to choose between them. The DMBL is the first from Mojo Hand which acts purely as a pre-amp. It has a beautiful low-end weight whilst losing none of the warmth of the mid to top end. The Speakeasy similarly puts its focus on the low-end with a three weight selector and tone control which only affects the top-end. Either the DMBL or Speakeasy makes a perfect base for any rig needing shades of a classic amp.
Released at the same time are the more “Effect” based pedals The Dewdrop and the Mirrorball. The Dewdrop is a stunning, crisp spring reverb. As with many of Mojo Hand’s pedals there is no space for frippery. It is simple, clean and beautifully dark like dripping treacle over the strings and with great sustain, it is a rich backdrop for those moody solos.
The Mirrorball apes some other recent mod/delay pedals. Again Mojo Hand has kept it simple but versatile. As you would expect it offers the full range of settings for both delay and mod, with effortless blending. Overall the Mirrorball is bright and punchy and a perfect foil for the darkness of the Dewdrop.
It is hard to qualify whether Mojo Hand has everything, or nothing left to prove. Here though, they have proved to be every bit worthy of their reputation.
