Bitcrushers – Frequently Asked Questions:
Can a bitcrusher be used with other effects pedals?
- Yes, a bitcrusher can be used with other effects pedals to create unique and interesting sounds.
Where should it be in the signal chain?
- It can be used before or after other pedals in the signal chain, there are no “rules” or strong recommendations with this one. They lend themselves to both musical and technical experimentation, so – see what happens!
How do bitcrushers work?
- They reduce the fidelity of the signal by reducing the resolution or bit rate of the digital signal (normally the higher the better – but not in this case!). In tandem with this the bandwidth and sample rate of the original signal is manipulated.
Do any manufacturers combine bitcrushing with other effects?
- Yes – AC Noises Ama reverb pedal is a great example of this, as it is both a superb reverb with a bit crush on the reverb tail if needed. Also, we mustn’t forget the Hungry Robot Wardenclyffe and Wardenclyffe Mini which also include bitcrushing capability
