Frequency Splitter FAQs
What types of frequency splitters are there?
- High-pass/low-pass filters: These pedals divide the audio signal into two frequency ranges, with one range consisting of frequencies above a certain cutoff point, and te other below. Each range can then be processed separately using different effects or amplifiers.
- Three-band EQ: These pedals divide the audio signal into three frequency ranges (high, mid, and low) and allow each range to be adjusted using a separate EQ control. This allows for precise shaping of the tone and can be useful for sculpting complex sounds.
- Multi-band compression: These pedals use compression to control the dynamic range of each frequency range separately. This can be useful for achieving a more consistent tone across all frequency ranges, or for emphasizing certain frequency ranges for a more “punchy” or “scooped” sound.
