Phasers
Phaser pedals create sweeping, swirling motion by shifting the phase of your signal and mixing it back in, giving everything from subtle movement to deep, resonant whooshes. They work brilliantly on clean rhythms, lead lines and even synths. Our Phasers range includes warm analogue designs like the KMA Audio Machines Astrospurt, expansive stereo options such as the KMA HorizonT and versatile classics like the EarthQuaker Devices Grand Orbiter V3.

Phaser Pedals – Frequently Asked Questions
What does a phaser pedal do?
A phaser pedal splits your signal, shifts the phase of one part through a series of filters and then mixes it back with the dry tone. As the filters sweep, they create moving peaks and notches in the frequency spectrum – heard as a smooth, swirling motion. Depending on the depth and speed, this can range from gentle shimmer through to very pronounced, psychedelic sweeps.
How is a phaser different from a flanger or chorus?
Phasers use all-pass filters to shift phase and create notches, giving a smooth, liquid sound. Flangers use very short delay times to produce a more metallic, jet-like swoosh. Chorus blends slightly detuned copies of your signal for a doubling effect. If you want liquid swirls and classic 70s and 80s textures, a phaser such as the Astrospurt or Grand Orbiter V3 is ideal.
Where should I put a phaser in my signal chain?
Most players treat phasers like other modulation pedals, placing them after drives and before delay and reverb. This keeps the swirls clear and lets echoes and ambience follow the modulated sound. Stereo phasers like the KMA HorizonT often work best towards the end of the chain or in an amp effects loop to take full advantage of their stereo spread.
Are phasers good for both clean and driven tones?
Yes. On clean tones, phasers add subtle animation or pronounced vintage swoosh. On overdrive and distortion, a slower phaser can thicken lead lines and make sustained notes feel bigger without getting too messy. Pedals like the Grand Orbiter V3 offer wide speed ranges so you can dial in everything from slow, syrupy motion to fast, Leslie-like rotation.
What are some good first phaser pedals?
For a classic four-stage analogue voice, the KMA Astrospurt is an easy-to-dial-in choice. If you want deeper control and stereo imaging, the HorizonT adds multi-spatial phasing and advanced features, while the Grand Orbiter V3 gives you phaser, vibrato and resonant filter options in one pedal.
