We love and use CIOKS ourselves because they’re solid, reliable, and the DC7 v2 is the one we’d put on our own boards without a second thought.

What Makes the CIOKS DC7 v2 Different?

Some power supplies give you a fixed voltage and let you get on with it. Each of the DC7’s seven isolated outputs has four selectable voltages — 9V, 12V, 15V, or 18V — switched via recessed DIP switches on the top of the unit.

This means it can cope with just about any board. It’s also easy to underestimate the difference running pedals at 18V rather than 9V makes — for pedals designed to run at higher voltages, it can open things up considerably. So good for a bit of experimentation too.

Each 9V outlet delivers a generous 660mA. That will cope with most boutique and digital pedals, and the Flex cables give great flexibility in terms of connection type — without having to buy a new PSU every time your board changes.

DC7 v2 vs Original DC7 – What’s Changed?

The v2 differs a little from the original. The core power architecture is largely the same, but CIOKS have made two meaningful improvements:

  • USB-C replaces USB-A: The v2’s USB outlet delivers 15W (5V / 3A) versus the original’s 5W (5V / 1A) — three times the charging power, enough to keep a tablet or modern smartphone properly topped up.
  • Runs cooler: CIOKS have optimised the switch-mode circuit for greater efficiency, meaning the v2 runs noticeably cooler under load. Better thermals, longer life.

Everything else that made the original DC7 the industry standard — the noise floor, the build quality, the mounting flexibility, the 5-year warranty — is carried over intact. The v2 is simply a better version of an already excellent unit.

Voltage, Current, and Why It Matters

Here’s what separates the DC7 v2 from cheaper isolated supplies: flexibility without compromise. The DIP switches on each output let you dial in exactly the right voltage for each pedal, rather than running everything at a one-size-fits-all 9V.

Like we said — running an 18V pedal for extra headroom? One switch flip and you’re good to go.

The 24V auxiliary output extends the system further still. Connect a CIOKS 8 Expander for an additional 8 isolated outlets — giving you 15 isolated outputs from a single mains connection. If you’re building a large-format board, that combination is genuinely hard to beat.

Monitoring: Built-In Intelligence

For a unit that typically lives under your pedalboard, CIOKS have put serious thought into how you know what’s going on. Three small LEDs on top form a true power meter showing total load at 40%, 70%, and 90% thresholds. Each outlet has its own individual status LED — if an outlet overloads or short-circuits, it goes dark to immediately pinpoint the problem.

The global status indicator lives in the ‘O’ of the CIOKS logo. If it goes out, you’re approaching the unit’s limits. But don’t worry — if things get really critical, there’s a safe hiccup mode that cuts power to protect your pedals. You won’t notice it until you need it, but when you do, you’ll be grateful it’s there.

Build and Mounting

The DC7 v2’s all-metal enclosure is noticeably solid for something so slim. At 500g it’s genuinely lightweight, but nothing about it feels cheap. Three M4 threaded holes on the underside and two more along the edge cover most mounting arrangements, and the unit ships with screws and a hex key.

For Pedaltrain boards specifically, the optional CIOKS GRIP bracket lets you clamp the DC7 v2 underneath rail-type boards without drilling a single hole. Templeaudio fixings are also accommodated.

What’s the difference between the original and the DC7 v2?

Two meaningful upgrades: the USB outlet is now USB-C delivering 15W (5V/3A) versus the original’s 5W USB-A, and it now runs cooler thanks to an optimised switch-mode topology. Core power output — 7 isolated outlets, 48W total, four selectable voltages per outlet is unchanged.

Can the DC7 v2 power high-current digital units?

Yes – units drawing more than 660mA need two outlets combined using the included Split Flex cable. CIOKS’s own FAQ confirms this works cleanly for units like the HX Stomp (~900mA) and HX Effects (~1,100mA). Units with very high dedicated power requirements — like the Neural DSP Quad Cortex (12V / 3A) — need their own separate supply regardless of which pedalboard PSU you’re running.

How do I expand beyond 7 outputs?

Use the CIOKS 8 Expander. The DC7s 24V auxiliary outlet connects to this for 8 additional isolated outlets.

Will it fit under my Pedalboard?

The DC7 v2’s 1-inch (25.4mm) profile fits under most popular pedalboards. On Pedaltrain boards, all models except the Nano are straightforward. CIOKS’s instructions don’t recommend the Nano for under-board mounting. Templeaudio fixings are accommodated via the threaded holes on the underside.

Is the CIOKS DC7 v2 noisy?

No. The 2-stage switch-mode supply and multistage filtering means it’s essentially silent in use. One of the cleanest supplies available.

Can I use it abroad?

Yes. Universal mains input (90–265V AC, 50/60Hz) means it will work anywhere. Just bring an appropriate mains cable or plug adaptor.
