The Death By Audio Crossover Fuzz does something fundamentally different from other fuzzes.
The signal is split into highs and lows. Each frequency band then has its own fuzz and resonant filter circuits — so high and low fuzz is independently and simultaneously controlled.
The crossover point of the two frequency bands overlaps, giving a harmonically dense layering rather than a thin split.
The RES knob controls the resonance of both filters simultaneously, giving a range from smooth and subtle to screaming oscillation. Combine this with the independent gain controls for each band and you get a surprisingly useable dual-band EQ — from dirt to sonic destruction.
The reactive LED display shows you the current filter position in real time. Useful on a dark stage — and it looks good too.
The I/O Routing Options
Dual inputs and outputs let you configure four different scenarios:
- Mono: Plug into either input and use the Highs Mono output. Both low and high-pass signals are summed to a single output. Standard mono fuzz use.
- Mono to Stereo: Plug into either input and use both Highs and Lows outputs. The signal splits into low and high frequency bands, each available as a separate output.
- Stereo to Mono: Plug two sources into both inputs and use the Highs Mono output. Both signals are summed to a single fuzzed output.
- Stereo: Use both inputs and both outputs — Input L routes to the Lows output, Input H routes to the Highs output for full stereo separation.
The amp-splitting option is worth highlighting: run the Lows output to a bass amp and the Highs output to a guitar amp for a full-frequency fuzz that keeps low-end clarity even under heavy drive — because each band is processed entirely separately.
Controls
- FREQ: Sets the crossover frequency between the low and high filters. Low-pass ranges from 30Hz to 7.6kHz, high-pass from 80Hz to 17kHz.
- RES: Simultaneously controls the resonance of both filters — from smooth and subtle to hyper-focused to wild, oscillating chaos.
- GAIN (x2): Separate gain controls for Lows and Highs — from clean through overdrive to full fuzz, independently on each band.
- VOL (x2): Independent output level controls for Lows and Highs.
- FREQ EXP (side jack): TRS expression pedal or 0–5V CV input for external control of the filter frequency. The FREQ knob sets the minimum frequency the external controller will reach — fully counterclockwise gives the maximum available range.

Power
Requires a 9V DC centre-negative supply at 120mA. Any outlet on the CIOKS DC7 v2 or CIOKS SOL handles it comfortably.
Who Is This For?
This clearly isn’t a conventional fuzz. The Crossover Fuzz is for players who want to push things a bit — running a guitar through two separate amps with independent frequency bands, using the resonant filters as an auto-wah, separating bass and guitar frequencies, or just wanting a dual-band fuzz that does things no single-band pedal can. The dual-band fuzz architecture is pretty unusual in itself.
