The Death By Audio Evil Filter is basically a dual circuit fuzz and filter pedal, and there are two separate sections that can be used alone or together.
The fuzz circuit offers sine and square waveform options, together with the filter section that fas three filter types, which are being low pass, band pass, high pass. There are two resonance levels and a CV/expression input that can be swept for real time filter control.
Push the resonance hard enough and at this point the filter will oscillate on its own. Push further again, and the fuzz and resonant filter together produce octaves up, down, and envelope folds.
Controls
- Fuzz Type switch: Sine wave (smoother) or Square wave (harsher, more aggressive) fuzz character.
- Fuzz Output: Sets the overall output level of the fuzz section.
- Freq: This sets the filter cut off frequency
- Selector: Chooses between Low Pass, Band Pass, and High Pass filter types.
- Resonance: Sets the resonance frequency of the filter. At high levels causes self oscillation.
- Resonance Switch: Normal or high-range resonance.
- EXP/CV Input: External expression pedal or CV input for real time filter cutoff control.

FAQs
Yes. They operate as separate circuits and can be used singely or together.
It sets the filter’s resonant frequency. At medium levels it adds a peak whereas high levels cause the filter to self oscillate.
Yes — the EXP/CV input accepts a standard expression pedal or a 0-5V CV .
The compressed character of the fuzz circuit is a feature of design because it is a dynamic effect. The dip is particularly evident when the filter resonance is cranked up
Yes — true bypass throughout.
9V DC centre negative at 21mA.
