The Death By Audio Rooms is a stereo digital reverb with six distinct modes – Room, Digit, Peak, Wave, Gate, and Gong. Each mode produces a substantially different reverb character, from conventional room ambience through digital textures to gated and percussive reverbs.
Expression pedal control is available in Alt mode.
One thing to know. DBA designed Rooms to achieve massive walls of sound, so at low volumes there is a small amount of audible noise floor.
This is intentional. Cranking the gain does not increase this noise, so the practical solution is to run it louder and enjoy. The LED sometimes flickers when bypassed if a long reverb tail is still decaying — also normal and by design.
Controls
- Freq: Controls the frequency setting of whatever mode is active.
- Depth: Controls frequency setting of whatever depth parameter has been selected
- Time: Sets reverb time across all modes
- Alt: Engages the ALT mode that allows switching between two sets of controls. When active, Freq is controlled with the F knob, DEPTH with the D knob, and TIME with the T knob.
- Dry: Controls the level of the un affected signal
- FX: Controls the level of the affected signal
In every mode, Time sets the reverb time. Freq and Depth (the F and D knobs in Alt mode) do the following:
- Room: Freq sets the tone of the decay, Depth sets the pre-delay.
- Digit: Freq sets the delay time, Depth sets the feedback.
- Peak: Freq sets the filter frequency, Depth sets the filter resonance.
- Gate: Freq sets the decay tone, Depth sets the gate response time.
- Wave: Freq sets the modulation frequency, Depth sets the modulation depth.
- Gong: Freq sets the modulator frequency, Depth blends from aliasing to ring modulation.
A few more control points:
- Dry and FX levels each run from silent up to 20x gain, so either can be pushed well above unity.
- I/O covers mono, mono-in/stereo-out and stereo, and can split dry and FX between the left and right outputs.
- Expression control only works in Alt mode with a pedal plugged in. A side F↔T switch chooses whether it controls Freq or Time.

- Gong: Blends from aliasing to ring modulation, giving extended, resonant reverb.
