Death By Audio Space Bender

The Death By Audio Space Bender chorus and modulator pedal doubles and warps your signal. Create beautiful and organic sounds from a place somewhere beyond linear time.

Under the hood lies an array of dynamic modulated delay lines. These allow you to craft subtle vintage sci-fi sounds, bending sonic bedlam, and pulsing atmospheres.

Never again will you say this chorus pedal just isn’t intense enough!

These, in combination with the rocker switch settings, let you move through a wide range of effect types. Experience new ways of thinking and with modulated delay, chorus, and flanger.

Controls

Knobs:

  • Speed:
    • The Speed control on the Death By Audio Space Bender is pivotal in shaping your overall sound. It influences three main parameters: the Low-Frequency Oscillator (LFO) speed, the Envelope (ENV) sensitivity, and the delay time.
    • Low-Frequency Oscillator (LFO) Speed
      • Shorter Times: When you set the Speed control to shorter times, you’ll hear effects like flange and chorus. The modulation is slower and more subdued, providing a lush, sweeping texture to your sound.
      • Longer Times: Extended Speed settings lead to more pronounced, wiggling, and modulated delay effects. The sound stretches, offering a richer and more dynamic modulation.
      • Envelope Sensitivity (ENV)
        • Quick Reactions: Adjusting the speed allows for sensitive and quick envelope responses, which alter the dynamics and intensity of the effect in real-time based on your playing.
        • Sustained Changes: At slower speeds, the envelope responses become more gradual and evolving, perfect for ambient and atmospheric soundscapes.
    • Delay Time
      • Flange and Chorus: Short delay times result in traditional flange and chorus sounds with smoother modulation.
      • Modulated Delay: Longer delay settings transform your sound into modulated delay effects, giving a wobbling and unpredictable texture.
  • Depth:
    • The Depth control is a versatile feature that influences several aspects of your sound.
    • Envelope & LFO: Adjusting the Depth affects the Envelope or the Low-Frequency Oscillator (LFO), modifying the dynamics or rhythmic modulation of your sound.
    • Delay Feedback: It also controls the feedback level of the delay, allowing you to create anything from quick, subtle echoes to expansive, oscillating soundscapes.
    • By tweaking the Depth knob, you can explore a broad spectrum of sonic effects, ranging from short, nuanced variations to extensive, evolving sound waves.

Switches:

  • Delay Time Switch:
    • Selects between x1 (very short delay time) and x10 (longer delay time)
  • Modulator Switch:
    • Selects the type of modulation that will then be affected by the above.
  • Intensity Switch:
    • Selects between LO (less intense modulation) and HI (really intense for wild sounds, oscillations and feedback)
  • Internal Gain Control:
    • The internal Gain control on the Space Bender adjusts the pedal’s output volume. This control allows you to regulate the output from a balanced level all the way up to an exceptionally high volume, depending on your needs.
    • To access this internal control, you’ll need to remove the pedal’s backplate. Once opened, you can fine-tune the output by rotating the Gain knob to reach the desired volume.

Main features:

  • Chorus/Flanger/Modulated Delay effects pedal
  • Stretches the signal into glassy bell resonances, massive reverse dive bombs, and seasick demon drones
  • Provides flange and chorus sounds with slower modulation, while long times will give you modulated delay
  • Simple but deep control interface with simple rocker switches
  • True Bypass Switching
  • Compact footprint and top-mounted jacks for easy pedalboard mounting
  • Powered by regular 9 V DC PSU
  • (centre -, 2.1 mm, ~65mA current draw)

Stretch and pull your sound waves to craft glassy bell resonances, massive reverse dive bombs, and seasick demon drones with a simple (but deep) interface.

The spectrum of living, breathing sound manipulations stowed within the Space Bender serves as an interstellar gateway for the next wave of musicians to create a universe of haunting and unexplored soundscapes.

I’ve had a quick go with it and I’m blown away. There are so many great sounds and I feel like I haven’t even scratched the surface yet. It feels like you’d need 3-4 pedals just to recreate what this thing does and they somehow do it all in one box!
