The Death By Audio Total Sonic Annihilation 2 (TSA2) is a feedback pedal. No not a conventional fuzz or distortion, but a device that routes feedback from the output of effects in its loop back into their input.
The result is controlled chaos: self-oscillating loops, runaway feedback, and sounds that evolve and change over time without any additional input from the player.
It has three controls — Gain, Phase, and Limit shape the character of the feedback.
The Phase switch is particularly important. Changing phase changes the feedback from positive (building and runaway) to negative (more controlled and musical).
The Limit control prevents the feedback from reaching truly destructive levels. The TSA2 interacts differently with different pedals in its loop, which is part of its appeal.
Controls
- Gain: Controls the gain of the feedback signal.
- Phase switch: Flips the phase of the feedback — fundamental to how the TSA2 behaves.
- Limit: Prevents the feedback from reaching destructive levels.

FAQs
It’s a feedback pedal that routes the output of effects in its loop back into their input, creating self-oscillating feedback loops that build, evolve, and mutate over time. It’s not a conventional fuzz or distortion — it’s more like a sound-generating system that uses your other pedals as raw material.
The TSA2 interacts very differently with different pedals. Experiment with the Phase, Gain, and Limit controls — particularly the Phase switch, which fundamentally changes how the feedback behaves. Try different pedals in the loop. Some combinations produce immediate chaos; others need more encouragement.
The original Total Sonic Annihilation had a single feedback/output control. The TSA2 adds Gain, Phase switching, and Limiting — giving significantly more control over the feedback character.
