EarthQuaker Devices Hoof Fuzz Pedal – V2
The Hoof V2 is Earthquaker Devices’ flagship fuzz, and when you hear it you’ll instantly know why.
The Hoof is loosely based on a classic green Russian muff-style circuit, with a unique hybrid germanium/silicon design
The sound is rich, with smooth fuzz tones full of natural overtones and enough sustain to make Santana stop in his tracks and take note.
The Hoof’s fuzzy character is tight and controlled without losing any “guts,” so to speak, so even heavy fuzz tones will sit well in the mix.
Every NOS Germanium transistor in the Hoof V2 is hand-matched for consistency, guaranteeing that every single Hoof V2 will rock equally hard!
The Hoof V2 has a fully analog signal path and new electronic relay-based true-bypass switching.
The Hoof is a no-fuss, easy-to-use device capable of sounds from warm, gritty overdrive to a huge sustaining fuzz. It has a tighter, cleaner sound than most muffs which makes it more cutting and discernible in a band setting.
You can see lots of Hoof demos here.
Features
- Hybrid germanium/ silicon fuzz – for rich and smooth fuzz tones
- Hand tested NOS germanium transistors
- Shift knob selects center frequency of the Tone control
- True bypass – Silent soft-touch switching
- Analog dry-through
- Top-mounted jacks
Controls
The Hoof has a wide gain range, everything from dirty and organic amp-like overdrive, to monstrous fuzz madness.
This, paired with the “Shift” control allows you total tonal access, as the “Shift” knob works with the “Tone” control to alter the overall frequency response of the Hoof.
Use the “Shift” to:
- boost the highs for a glassy, cutting top-end
- cut out some low-mid mud
- add some thick stoner rock sludge; enhance bass by combatting the muff-style fuzz’s notorious “mid scoop
Fuzz: Controls the amount of fuzz
Tone: Controls bass and treble frequencies
Shift: Controls mids – either scooped or increased mid-range
Power
Requires standard 9-volt DC power supply with a 2.1mm negative center barrel. Current draw is 10 mA.
Each Hoof V2 is built in Akron, Ohio, USA.
