The Emma Electronic OnoMATopoeia is a boost and overdrive pedal in one. It’s designed to cover both jobs without forcing you to choose. Keep the gain low and it works as a clean, transparent boost but push it further and it moves into genuine overdrive territory.
One Pedal, Two Jobs
Most boost or overdrive pedals ask you to pick a lane. The OnoMATopoeia doesn’t!
The OnoMATopoeia can raise your volume to solo level as a straightforward boost, or thanks to its Gain control , push into genuine tube-amp-style distortion once you dial it in. A wide-ranging “seesaw” Tone control and a Saturation knob round out the control set, giving it a genuine tonal trick beyond a standard boost.
With the Saturation control kept low, it stays clean, adding volume and a touch of harmonic sizz without pushing into breakup. This is handy for lifting solos, or driving an already dirty amp harder without adding a second layer of grit.
Wind the Saturation control up and it transitions into a warm, valve like overdrive instead. The goal for Emma was a pedal that every player would find a use for, whether run subtly as a background booster or leant on for its own drive character.
Key Features
- Functions as a clean boost or a full overdrive depending on how far you push the Saturation control
- Simple, intuitive control set
- Suits use in front of a clean amp for lift, or in front of an already-driven amp for extra grit
- Handmade in Denmark
Controls
- Level: sets the output volume
- Tone: A “seesaw” control balancing bass and treble
- Saturation: sets the amount of gain, taking the pedal from clean boost through to full overdrive. Turned left, mimics the loose sound of a power amp in early breakup. Turned right, the pedal amplifies cleanly as normal
- Gain: Adds distortion, letting the pedal push into tube-amp-style overdrive rather than staying a clean boost
Power
Runs on a standard 9V DC supply. Current requirement not stated, but it won’t need much!
Who Is This For
Worth a look if you want one pedal that covers both boost and overdrive duty rather than buying two separate pedals for each job. Straightforward, no nonsense way to add either lift or grit depending on where you set the Saturation control.

FAQs
It works as a clean, transparent boost at lower Saturation settings, and moves into genuine overdrive as you push the Saturation control further — one pedal covering both jobs rather than committing to just one.

Yes. With the Saturation control set low, it stays clean and simply lifts your volume for solos or to push the front of your amp harder.
Turning up Saturation brings in more gain and grit, giving you a warmer, amp-like overdrive rather than a harsh, fizzy distortion.
