The JHS Little Black Amp Box is a volume attenuator that runs in your amp’s series effects loop, letting you control how much signal reaches the amp’s power section.
The result is that you can push the front end of a tube amp ( preamp, EQ, gain stage, whatever) as hard as you want while the power section sees a reduced signal and produces less volume.
You get the tone of a cranked amp at a useable volume.
One critical safety warning from JHS – This is not a Powersoak type of product : do not place the Little Black Amp Box between the power section and the speakers. It must run in the series effects loop only. Placing it after the power amp output will damage your equipment.
Controls
- Volume: Controls how much signal the power section receives — fully clockwise is unity, fully counterclockwise is silent.
Key Features
- Volume attenuator for the amp’s series effects loop
- Crank the preamp and push the front end at lower volumes

IMPORTANT — Read Before Use

Connect it from your amp’s effects loop send to the input of the Little Black Amp Box, and from the output of the Little Black Amp Box to the effects loop return. That’s it.
Because it works by reducing the signal level before it reaches the power section.
Yes, the Little Black Amp Box requires a series effects loop. Most modern tube amplifiers have one, but not all. Check your amp’s manual. Parallel effects loops won’t work correctly with this pedal.
Minimal tone colouration is the aim. JHS designed it to reduce volume while preserving the cranked amp character. As with any passive attenuator, reducing the power section drive will have some effect on the compression and saturation of the power tubes, but that’s the intended result.
It doesn’t need a power supply as its a passive unit
