The KMA Machines Logan doesn’t slot neatly into one category, and that’s rather the point.
Depending on how you set it up, it’ll work as a low or mid-gain drive, a preamp for running straight into a modeller or IR cab sim, or because it has an expression pedal input, something that nudges into wah and phaser territory.
The KMA Logan: An Overdrive With Proper Midrange Control
What sets the Logan apart from a standard overdrive is how much control you get over the midrange.
This is an area that most manufacturers use to define their products e.g. flat or mid hump Tubescreamer type of thing.
Most drive pedals give you a single tone knob and leave it at that.
Logan gives you a proper parametric footswitchable mid EQ. It also lets you decide if that EQ sits before or after the gain stage. This gives incredible flexibility.
For example, post-gain gives you a clean boost for solos and pre-gain pushes more saturation, acting as a second gain stage.
Add the expression pedal input into the mix and you can sweep that midrange live, which opens the door to phaser-like sweeps or a pseudo-wah sound most overdrive pedals simply can’t do.
Key Features
- Active 3-band EQ with a fully parametric mid section
- Bass and Treble controls, each capable of up to 15dB of boost or cut
- Mid frequency sweepable from 100Hz to 2.4kHz, with up to 12dB of cut or boost at that point
- Dedicated footswitch to turn the Mid-EQ on or off independently of the main bypass
- Pre/Post switch to place the Mid-EQ before or after the gain stage
- Expression pedal input for hands-free control of the mid frequency
- High headroom design, up to 25dB
- True bypass switching
- 30mA current draw at 9V DC centre negative
Controls
- Level: sets the overall output volume
- Drive: sets the amount of gain. Range from clean boost to indie clang to full rock.
- Bass: active bass control, up to 15dB boost or cut
- Treble: active treble control, up to 15dB boost or cut
- Mid (M Freq): sets the centre frequency of the parametric mid, 100Hz to 2.4kHz
- M C/B Cut/Boost: cuts or boosts the selected mid frequency by up to 12dB
- Mid-EQ footswitch: turns the parametric mid section on or off independently of bypass
- Pre/Post switch: places the Mid-EQ before or after the main gain stage
- Expression input: hands-free control of the mid frequency via an expression pedal
- Bypass footswitch: true bypass on/off
- Two internal trimpots:
- Q is reached through a hole in the base plate. Counterclockwise gives a broad bandwidth for smooth sweeps, and clockwise gives resonant sounds.
- A second one under the base plate blends clean signal with the overdriven tone. That suits bass, keys, synths, vocals and drums.
Power
The Logan runs on a standard 9V DC centre-negative supply and draws 30mA, so it’s an easy fit on most boards without needing anything unusual.
Who Is This For
Worth a look if you want more than a single tone knob out of your drive pedal. Particularly if you play across rock, blues, or heavier styles and want to dial in a specific midrange character.

FAQs
The Logan is a low to mid-gain overdrive with a fully parametric mid-EQ section. It can work as a drive pedal, a preamp for use with a modeller or IR cab sim, or, using the expression input, a wah or phaser-like sweep on the midrange.
A standard 9V DC centre-negative supply at 30mA. A CIOKS SOL is a clean, simple option. If you’re running higher-voltage pedals elsewhere on your board, a CIOKS DC7 v2 lets you set different voltages per outlet, though the Logan itself only needs 9V.
True bypass. The main footswitch takes the circuit fully out of your signal path when the pedal is off.
Yes. It’s confirmed to work well with both pickup types, delivering clarity and punch without losing definition.
Yes, the expression input gives you hands-free control over the mid frequency, letting you create fast wah-like sweeps or slower phaser-style filtering while you play.
Most overdrive pedals give you a single tone control. The Logan adds a full parametric mid-EQ that’s footswitchable on its own and can sit before or after the gain stage, giving you far more control over your midrange than a typical drive pedal.
No – just TRS pedals only, not CV.
