The KMA Machines Wurm 2 is a high gain distortion pedal built as a love letter to the Boss HM-2 . This is the Japanese heavy metal distortion that became the sound of Swedish death metal.
The original HM-2 has become increasingly sought-after and expensive on the used market. The Wurm 2 takes that chainsaw distortion character and gives it a modern feature set: a four-band active EQ, switchable mid voicing, and a modern/vintage switch that shapes the overall character of the circuit.
The four-band active EQ is the key upgrade over the original circuit. The original HM-2 had four level controls that were effectively fixed-frequency filters. The Wurm 2’s active EQ gives genuine boost and cut at each frequency, not just level control. This means you can shape the distortion character in ways the original simply couldn’t — tighten the low end, scoop or boost the mids, add or remove presence.

FAQs
The Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal was a Japanese distortion made from 1983 to 1991. It was the sound became of Swedish death metal – that chainsaw guitar tone. Original MIJ units have become expensive on the used market. The Wurm 2 takes that circuit as its starting point and adds a proper four-band active EQ and additional switching options.
It shapes the overall character of the distortion circuit. Chose between HM2 or KMA voicing
The original HM-2 had 2 EQ controls (Colour Mix Low & High) that were fixed-frequency filters. The Wurm 2’s active four-band EQ gives genuine boost and cut at each frequency range, giving significantly more tonal shaping capability.
The Wurm 2 produces heavy, saturated distortion that works well for any genre that needs that character — shoegaze, grunge, post-rock, and noise rock as much as metal. The four-band EQ gives enough flexibility to pull it away from pure chainsaw territory.
Yes — true bypass throughout.
