The Mojo Hand FX Magpie is a transparent British-style overdrive designed for low to medium gain territory. The three-way toggle switch is its most distinctive feature — three different clipping configurations give three fundamentally different drive characters from the same pedal. In Boost mode the clipping diodes are bypassed entirely, giving a louder, cleaner, less compressed sound that works as a tone-shaping boost.
It’s the natural partner to the Rook in the Mojo Hand range — the two together form the Odessa dual overdrive. If you stack Magpie into Rook, Magpie’s lower gain runs into the Rook’s higher gain for a convincing two-stage drive setup. Both pedals can be run independently and in any order.
Controls

- Tone: High-frequency character.
- Volume: Output level.
- Three-way toggle: Selects between Crunch (compressed, dirty), Normal (standard British drive), and Boost (diodes bypassed — louder, cleaner, less compressed).

Watch It In Action
Crunch gives a more compressed, dirty character with the diodes in the circuit. Normal is the standard British overdrive voice. Boost bypasses the clipping diodes entirely, giving a louder, cleaner, less compressed sound — useful as a tone-shaping boost rather than a conventional overdrive.
A sound associated with Marshall and Vox-derived circuits — a particular combination of midrange presence and harmonic content that sits differently from American Fender-derived overdrive. British-style overdrives tend to have more midrange emphasis and a particular kind of compressed crunch character.
Yes — Mojo Hand specifically pair them in the Odessa dual overdrive pedal. Running Magpie into Rook gives Magpie’s lower gain into the Rook’s higher gain for a convincing two-stage drive setup.
Yes — true bypass throughout.
9V DC centre-negative or a 9V battery. Any outlet on the CIOKS DC7 v2 or CIOKS SOL handles it comfortably.
Low to medium gain — from edge-of-breakup to moderate overdrive. It’s not a high-gain distortion pedal. For higher gain, stack it with the Rook or another drive.
