The Mojo Hand FX Rook is an overdrive that has very special EQ – the Baxandall.
This is the thing that makes it more interesting than most overdrives.
A Baxandall EQ is normally found in hi-fi amps and mixing desks. Both Bass and Treble can be independently boosted or cut rather than simply rolled off. The practical result is that the Rook has a massively wide range of tones. You can set both Bass and Treble low for a mid-hump, or turn both up for a scooped mid character and every point in between!
Three different clipping configurations are selected with a toggle.
Classic mode uses traditional diode clipping for rich harmonic content. LED mode uses LED clipping for a rawer, edgier, almost distortion-type character and the middle position removes the clipping diodes. This gives a louder, less compressed sound. In the midle position, the Rook can also act as a boost / tone shaper.
The Rook won Pedal of the Year 2011 from What’s That Dude Play, and Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge has said how it boosts leads without compromising clarity or tone. Stacking it with other drives is a particular strength.
