Mojo Hand FX Speakeasy Preamp
Based on the revered EP-3 circuit, the Mojo Hand FX Speakeasy one-ups the competition by giving you more shaping ability and tonal range.
The separate GAIN and VOLUME controls essentially double the preamp’s useability while the addition of a full range TONE knob and 3-way ‘thickness’ switch allows you to tailor the Mojo Speakeasy’s tone to YOUR need
What is the EP-3 circuit?
Quite simply it is the pre-amp circuitry of the old Echoplex tape delays. These are classic echo pedals that hark back to the late 1950.
However, guitarists discovered that whilst the echo bit of the Echoplex was great, the preamp circuit was a great boost and overdrive, depending upon your amplifier.
So, this boost pedal is based on that circuit and sound. Curtis Kent gives a great demo of it here.
Old school analog tone – polished leads and sparkling overtones are the aim of the game. Many of the guitar greats have used the EP3 as part of their tone at some time – Jimmy Page; Eddie Van Halen, Brian May etc.
