The Wren and Cuff Ace Octave Fuzz is a recreation of the Acetone FM-2 Professional.
This is a rare Japanese octave fuzz from the late 1960s and early 1970s that is a bit unique.
It’s not a Tycobrahe Octavia or a Univox Super-Fuzz. It has a specific character. It’s bold and has a well defined octave-up voicing that becomes increasingly prominent above the 12th fret. Not sure we know of any other fuzz that is quite the same.
AS you woudl expect, Wren and Cuff didn’t build this from a schematic. They sourced original vintage Acetone FM-2 units, removed components, measured them, listened and worked to replicate the sound as mucj as the circuit. That’s the Wren and Cuff approach across their entire range – ears first, schematic second.
The Tone toggle gives two distinct characters. THe first is a midrange sound that cuts through the mix, or a fat girthy sound with extra low end for a more saturated, full fuzz. The octave is most pronounced above the 12th fret on single notes.

FAQs
The Acetone FM-2 Professional was a Japanese octave fuzz from the late 1960s and early 1970s. It has a distinctive bold, rich fuzz character with a clear octave-up voice that doesn’t sound like any other octave fuzz. Original units are rare and expensive.
Most prominent above the 12th fret on single notes. Below the 12th fret it’s less pronounced and the overall sound is more of a thick, bold fuzz. This is typical of vintage octave fuzz circuits.
It selects between two tonal characters. One position gives a more middy sound, the other gives a fat, girthy sound with extra low end for a fuller, more saturated fuzz character.
Yes. The fat, low-end-focused Tone toggle position is particularly useful on bass. The octave-up effect adds harmonic interest above the fundamental.
