The Wren and Cuff Caprid is one of the most respected Big Muff recreations ever made, and the OG Red is the full-size version.

The Caprid OG Red Isn’t A Clone
Rather than simply copying a single vintage unit, Matthew Holl studied multiple examples of the Ram’s Head circuit (there were at least four distinct versions produced during the 1970s) and built a composite of what he considered the best elements of each.
The result is not a clone of one specific pedal but a considered interpretation of what the Ram’s Head circuit was capable of at its best.
Wren and Cuff are genuinely exceptional at what they do. The attention to historical detail is remarkable, and the Caprid OG sounds as good as the vintage classics it’s based on and are almost certainly more reliable.
A real Ram’s Head from the 1970s is a lottery. The Caprid is not.

What is the Ram’s Head Muff?
The Ram’s Head is a specific variation of the Electro Harmonix (EHX) Big Muff Pi from the early to mid-1970s, and named after the ram’s head graphic on the original enclosure.
Many players say it is the best sounding version of the Big Muff circuit because it is smoother and more sustaining than the earlier Triangle version. It has rich harmonics what players have described many times as a violin-like quality. David Gilmour used one extensively.
The problem with original Ram’s Head units is build quality – or lack of !
Component tolerances were loose, quality control was inconsistent, and decades of use have not been kind to many of them. Its funny, because component value drift sometimes enhances the sound and sometimes diinishes it – dependin gon what you are looking for of course. As we said above, making it a bit of a lottery.

The Caprid sounds, feels and looks really high quality. It’s the best Big Muff style fuzz I’ve ever played! I’ve not tried an original Rams Head but it gets me those Dinosaur Jr tones so I’m very happy! My only slight niggle with it is the power socket is a bit loose (came loose in transit I guess?) but I leave it plugged in on my pedalboard and it powers on fine.
