Wren and Cuff White Elk Small Foot Fuzz

The Wren and Cuff White Elk Small Foot is a recreation of one of the strangest things in Big Muff history. This is the Elk Super Fuzz Sustainar (that’s not a typo, that’s how they spelled it!)

This is a Japanese Triangle-era Muff copy from the 1970s that sounded almost nothing like the original it was copying!

The Elk pedals were not well regarded at the time because they were cheap, unreliable and easily broken

However, the carbon-comp resistors and ultra-cheap capacitors added a distinctive noise and mojo that only increased as the components aged and drifted, sometimes by as much as 50% of their stated values

The result was a fuzz that sounded unlike any other Muff variant. It was gnarlier, noisier, with its own specific character.

Wata and Takeshi from the Japanese band Boris found the original Elks and became their most famous advocates.

Wren and Cuff built the White Elk at the request of a Japanese distributor and later released it in the USA after considerable demand. It’s the gnarliest, most deliberately “wrong” sounding pedal in the Wren and Cuff range.
